Eligibility Requirements:
Prospective participants must be emancipating out of foster care. They need to have been in foster care for at least six months since their 16th birthday. They will fill out the Inspire application and participate in an interview with an interview committee. The youth accepted into the program will demonstrate a desire to make positive life choices and will be motivated to attend college/vocational school, work part-time and participate in all Inspire training and mentoring sessions. All participants will sign a contract that will detail what is expected from the participant and what services they can expect to receive from Inspire Life Skills Training, Inc.
Launching Requirements:
The program is set up to train and mentor former foster youth for a two year period. At the end of the two years, each youth and mentor will evaluate their needs and may extend participation in the program for another two year period. At that time they should be well equipped to launch from the program. There may be exceptions made that would require approval from the board of directors. For an example, an exception may be made if the student's class load is so demanding that they would not be able to work enough to afford a different living situation. Exceptions can be made for up to six month periods and not to exceed a two year maximum. The goal is that each participant completes her education or job training program. During that time she will have addressed physical health, emotional and psychological needs and learned how to live independently in order to lead a full and productive life.
